Current project, set for completion November 2025.
The problem: The City of Elkhart needs to separate the sanitary and storm systems in the area. This project also has watermain improvements in the project area that will replace the existing old cast water main.
The solution/work in progress: HRP is constructing two large systems to help separate the stormwater from the sanitary sewer, and half a mile of 24″ water main. The first new storm system consists of a new triplex stormwater pump station and 16-inch ductile iron forcemain that transfer the stormwater to a new 72-inch concrete storm sewer. The second storm system involves rebuilding a 28-foot-deep manhole in the middle of an intersection, installing pipe from the intersection, through city streets, and underneath a railroad bridge.
What is interesting about this project: The quantity and magnitude of work involved on this project make it interesting. This project has many of the types of work that HRP performs. Managing over twenty different subcontractors to keep the work progressing smoothly has been a fun challenge.
